A third rate company will usually stay that way

Except in the minds of some fanboys, it's no secret anymore that Notion Ink is a third rate me-too also-ran company. It's such a shame, even if they lost the battle in this hyper-competitive market but they could have gone out with a great name, dignity and prospects.

Instead, they made themselves a great name as a lousy company that gave horrendous customer service, poor software, loads of empty verbal nonsense, absolutely incompetent management. Only someone who is interested in parting with his money would invest in this management - whether in this company or the next.

Which brings us to another aspect - why it's important for founders to listen to critics and not just to their most ardent fanboys - and Notion Ink attracted some of the worst kind, the kind that mistakes poor quality to a million other excuses. That post is next.

so... I got an iPad 3 (that's what I will call it)

New iPad - whatever.

I've owned an iPad 2 - I made heavy use of it as I travel a lot. I use many apps very heavily and facetime has been invaluable in keeping in touch with my family.

It's a great device, but I tell you the screen on iPad 3 blows iPad 2 out of the water. Beautiful, super crisp, it's such a joy especially when reading. The HD games look amazing too. Haven't tried Airplay yet (I use Airplay heavily at home playing my photo albums, videos etc. on the large HD TV)

Not once in this entire year have I had a need for a cable or USB etc.  DropBox/Box.net/iCloud/Airplay - more than enough.

In terms of specs etc. this is evolutionary. iPad 2 was pretty quick already, so I don't particularly feel this to be much faster. The camera is so much better, but this iPad is all about the screen. It's screen porn.

I managed to sell my iPad 2 at a pretty good price, which is what is great about Apple products. So my true cost of use for a year of iPad 2 is just 200$! Of course not once have I had to have it repaired or pay extra charges or whatever. I got it, used it heavily, used it without wasting time on making it work, and then sold it for a good price and then got a new version already.

Go buy one.

The slow unraveling has begun

I guess I need a bit of time for a longer post. But all you need to do is visit the forums in Notion Ink and in TabletRoms to see how the ICS / Adam 2 are beginning to unravel.

I told you so. There are still some ostriches with their head in the sand calling Adam a "unfinished diamond" and rubbish like that, but that crowd is dwindling, and fast.

Apparently they said at the Apple iPad event...

"We believe technology is at its very best when it's invisible. When you're conscious only of what you're doing, not the device you're doing it with"

True.  But then Steve Jobs has been saying it for a while now, and some just don't get it.

They ought to get themselves a new computer

Jan 14 2012 - "Post the mentioned public release, we will be starting another blog. It will focus only on development, and we will again see a new device coming to life. Unlike last time where the hardware was mostly done out-house, this time every resistor, IC, bus lane, etc is designed and selected on the very computer working on this blog."

Man, their computer must be really slow. I mean look at the amount of time it's taking to see a "device coming to life"

Get a new computer Notion Ink.

Jan 22  2012 - "We will keep our focus on developments and this blog will go a little more into the technical details, so get your notebooks ready!"

The paper in our notebooks is turning into papyrus*.

* before someone tries to tell me that old paper is not papyrus - I know. Used just for effect.
