You know, everyone makes mistakes. But they seem to have an utter lack of self-awareness about their company and how it's perceived. It's okay to fess up, talk about what went wrong, talk about how you've learned from past problems (sometimes your fault, sometimes others)- actually that last part would keep us for reading many weekends... Really, it might actually give some people hope that this time will be different. Maybe.
