Opportunity cost of developing for Adam

(If you don't know what opportunity cost is -- Wikipedia to the rescue)

It just got me thinking - there's maybe 4 -5 devs out there in TR who are toiling / have been toiling for weeks to get ICS, for free (well, pretty much, donations don't amount to much), on behalf of TR and NI. And all for what - maybe 30-40 people who actually have the skills, patience to keep trying every version until it gets to a release? Maybe another 150 once it's released?

All the effort for so little reach. And NI has potentially quite conveniently moved on - after all infographics are pretty important these days.

  1. Why this obsession with NI? Why don't you let them do as they please....Care too much to let go?

  2. Yep.

Hold on a sec - what do you mean "why don't you let them do what they want" - its not like I'm stopping them from doing what they want. Though I'm pleased you think I have that power, sadly I don't. But thanks for dropping by.

  3. What I meant was....Had they even possessed an Ounce of Brain, they would have read what you write and actually changed/tried to change the way they handle everything...But they just don't seem to learn or even make an effort to learn!! Infographs? Seriously?!!!

You have been a good critic of NI and people involved. But are THEY listening? Shouldn't they use such criticism and do better....

  4. He is not obsessed. He is trying to help people so that they can not be fooled by NI [xxx] CEO Rohan Shravn Pandey. In fact, NI is doing nothing for last 1 year and just dreaming and farting dreams. The actual work is being done by 2-3 TR developers.

  5. jks - Fair point. I have been asked that question before - "Why are you so hung up about them." I am, simply because I had followed them for over a year before realizing the customers and prospects were led along. Therefore I'd like others not to make that mistake without evaluating their performance critically. I agree with you that they're probably paying scant notice, which is also a good reason why someone needs to keep a parallel eye on them so whoever is deciding to buy gets to read about both sides of the coin.

Look at it this way - it's no so much about them changing their behavior based on my blog, but it's more about giving a different perspective to prospective buyers (and hopeful existing ones too)

Perhaps there have been instances where they've had to watch what they say because of blogs like mine, but we would never know that. In the end, it's not about me wanting them to fail - but if they cannot fulfill expectations they set themselves, and leave customers high, dry and angry, then they deserve the criticism they get, just as they deserve praise if they do a great job. They've got enough people on their blog praising them already anyway.

  6. I really hope that they get some sense back and actually understand what they are doing, before trying and explaining the world about it.

WRT infographs...Anyone remembers that NI had a UI designer (younger than the CEO) who was supposed to be introduced.Poor guy, never got the spotlight.

    And now we have Dhyani!

  7. Yep - here's that context, he said it on 08 Feb 2011, a year ago.

    "08 February 2011
I will introduce him soon!" - referring to new UI designer since August 2010

Do they know what they're doing? I hope so for the sake of their fans.

  8. Did you see the new Development Blog post. Its a very long winded excuse why Dual Core is actually better than a Quad core. So, by this post, does it mean that the Adam 2 is going to be equipped with a Dual Core CPU?
